ABOUT HUTCHINSON ISLAND

Hutchinson Island, resting just east of Stuart and Ft. Pierce, is a strip of land 22 miles long.  It's bounded by the mile-wide Indian River to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east.  Today, it's one of Florida's most natural settings.

Twisting mangroves are home for numerous and colorful birds.  Sea oats, sea grape trees and pines protect the dunes from the eroding sea.  Pelicans, sandpipers, and gulls soar along the coast line, and the Atlantic Ocean produces the abundance of unique shells and interesting wood that wash ashore.

Through zoning regulations and concern of residents and visitors, the island has maintained the natural and peaceful setting.  One can still walk in solitude down the beach  or take advantage of the miles of scenic bike paths.
